Cricket

Believe it or not the earliest incarnation of the game of cricket can be traced right back to the 13th century – seemingly between children of the farming communities of Kent and Sussex. Having undergone a few changes since then, the modern game found its feet and by the 19th century, over-arm bowling had replaced under-arm.

Over the years England has witnessed some fantastic cricket, both international Test matches and country clashes. Legendary players such as W.G Grace, Don Bradman, Ian Botham and Viv Richards have delighted crowds up and down the country from Old Trafford to Lord’s – and it seems the latest crop aren’t too bad either.

The county season runs from April to September and so there are plenty of opportunities to catch some cricket in the summer months. However for many the real action is at the Test level when international sides play each other – not least when the Australians play England for The Ashes!

England’s next home fixtures are in May 2007 when they play the West Indies in a series of Test and One Day matches – followed by a visit from India.
