London

18th to the 26th April

This year Boris Johnson, mayor of London, has promised that St. George’s Day will be special with a full week of events running from the 18th to the 26th of April. There will be parades, food festivals, free musical concerts and other theatrical events.

It kicks off on Saturday 18th at the Victoria & Albert where there will be traditional English activities focused on children such as morris dancing, maypole dancing and a Punch and Judy show. On Sunday 19th there will be an old time Music Hall production at the Leicester Square Theatre, and a celebration of Shakespeare at the Globe Theatre with a free family event from midday to 5pm.

Then on Saturday, 26th of April, there will be a free Folk Concert in Trafalgar Square from 12.30pm to 6.00pm where you can catch some of England’s best folk musicians.

Jousting at Cressing Temple, Essex

18th and 19th April

Cressing Temple is the last vestige in England of the Knight’s Templars who fought alongside Richard I (The Lionheart) in the Crusades. Richard is credited with establishing St. George as the patron saint and also adopting the famous flag as the symbol of England.

To celebrate St. George's Day's at this historic place watch old sports such as jousting, falconry and archery and mingle with others in the atmosphere of old England. The jousting can be seen at 12.30 and also at 3.30 whilst you can see the Falconry at 2pm.

Ironbridge Gorge, Shropshire

23rd till 26th April

St George's Day

From the 23rd April till the 26th April celebrate St. George’s Day at the Ironbridge Gorge, Shropshire. This year the Prince Albert Players will be performing a reenactment of the legend of St. George. What’s more on the evening of the 23rd there will be an evening of Music Hall entertainment. Followed by a delicious traditional dinner of sausage and mash.

Birmingham live music concert

25th April

Globe Theatre, London

Victoria Square in the centre of Birmingham will hold a live music concert as well as fun rides for children of all ages such as dragon slides and dragon-making workshops.

What's more Chamberlain Square will have more historical and traditional activities such as Knights of Middle England in armour with their horses, sword-fighting displays and you can join in the Morris dancing as well as traditional folk. If you are hungry or thirsty you can tuck into a traditional old English feast of roast pig and old English beers. Or you can buy your souvenirs and other market dainties from the plentiful stalls.

St George’s Day Festival, Wrest Park, Bedfordshire

25th and 26th April

English Heritage is celebrating St George’s Day with the biggest event of the country in Wrest Park Bedfordshire on 25th and 26th April. After watching the reenactment of the legend take a tour of West Park, regarded as one of the most beautiful gardens in England. Followed by displays of falconry and archery all toped off with food from the local market Wells Bombarder.

Corbridge, Roman town

25th and 26th April

It is said that the origins of St. George are based on Roman myths. It is has even been argued that St. George was in fact a Roman solider who stood up to the emperor. So to celebrate this patron saint brush up on your knights skills and great ready to slay a dragon at Corbridge Roman town.

Richmond Castle, North Yorkshire

25th and 26th April

Located on the River Swale, Richmond Castle is celebrating St. George’s Day with costumed storytellers regaling the life and events of St George and his counterparts. This magnificent castle is the oldest Norman fortresses in England and is a great way to celebrate English heritage.

1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey and Battlefield

25th and 26th April

Where better to get to grips with the skills of ages past such as archery, sword fighting, stage combat and knights training than the historic fields of Hastings where much of it began way back in 1066. Or spend a delightful day at Dover Castle celebrating St Georges Day. The Betteshanger band will be entertaining you throughout the day with beautiful English classics. Salisbury

St George's day celebrations

As a historic town Salisbury will be celebrating St. George’s Day in style, with parades, guided walks and storytellers. This will all take place in the medieval market place and will be officiated over by the mayor of Salisbury.
