Get creative this St George's Day

St George’s Day 2008 school poetry competition

St George’s Day 2008 school poetry competition

Get creative and tell us what England means to you.

This academic year is also the Year of Food and Farming, so if you’re 14 or under, we would like you to write a poem about what food and farming in England means to you. Your poem could be about your favourite local food, the farmers who produce it, the beautiful English countryside, or one of England’s fantastic chefs – anything that you think makes English food and farming special.

Winners will receive a bespoke 3in-diameter bronze medal, £150 in book tokens and a special certificate.

St George’s Day 2008 afternoon tea competition

There’s nothing like a good brew!

St George’s Day 2008 afternoon tea competition

We would like you to take afternoon tea to a new level by entering our St George’s Day afternoon tea competition starting at 3.30pm on Wednesday 23 April.

Smother some scones with cream and jam, butter some crumpets, make some cucumber sandwiches and bring out the china tea set. To win the competition, you must hold your afternoon tea party in the most unusual place you can think of – at the top of a mountain, in a church tower, on a boat, in a railway carriage – wherever you like. The most imaginative entry will win a bespoke, 3-in diameter bronze medal and a special certificate.
