One of Britain's fast growing sports. Local, national and international teams battle it out in this fast game that combines skills from basketball, volleyball and football. Weymouth Handball is organised by the England Handball Association with the support of Weymouth and Portland Borough Council. The Championship is open to schools, senior teams and clubs. Beach Handball is a fast and exciting team game, based on the Olympic sport. Players compete four against four - with four substitutes - and the action on the small court (27 by 12 metres) is fast and furious. Extra points are awarded for particularly spectacular goals, for those scored in-flight, through a penalty or by a goalkeeper. Games go over two halves of 10 minutes each and there is always a winner, a golden goal decides each half and a drawn game is decided by a 'shoot-out' - a field players going up against the goalkeeper.
