Resort launches major new Maritime Festival for 2008, in preparation as the borough hosts the sailing events for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games Weymouth & Portland will host the resorts first Spirit of the Sea - Maritime Festival between 5th and 13th July. This unique festival will celebrate the area's rich maritime heritage and relationship with the sea, featuring a range of high profile events including Marine Ex Trade Show, Henri-Lloyd Weymouth Regatta, World Moth Sailing Championships, Dorset Seafood Festival, Maritime Modelling Festival, J24 National Sailing Championships, western Counties Long Distance Swimming Championships and Gig Regatta. There are also plans for the festival to include a `Three Sheets to the Wind' Party at the Nothe, Live Music on Beach Stage, Harbour side entertainment and a sea themed Procession "moving tide". It is the strong intention of the organising group to continue and developed this unique festival annually, up to 2013 and beyond, creating a magnificent Olympic legacy for the people and youth of Weymouth and Portland.
