Suffolk Horse Museum

Suffolk Horse Museum
Type : Museum
Location : Woodbridge

Bred and evolved in the Sandlings area of Suffolk, the Suffolk Punch is the oldest breed of heavy horse in Gt Britain. It has been described as the most perfect working animal bred by man and was a Power on the Land before the advent of full scale mechanisation on the farm. The Museum displays the story of the Suffolk Punch using a unique and wonderful collection of historic photographs, farm and family mementoes, paintings and silverware.

The Suffolk Horse Society, the breed society which seeks to preserve and promote the Suffolk Punch (as it is more popularly known) was established in 1877 and is the oldest breed society of it's kind anywhere in the world. The offices have always been located in Woodbridge and many items from it's impressive archive collected over these years are also on display in the Museum
