Nostell Priory House

Nostell Priory House
Type : Historic House/Palace
Location : Wakefield

Nostell Priory is an 18th-century architectural masterpiece with Adam interiors, Chippendale furniture, fine collections and landscape park and gardens

Nostell Priory's 14 state rooms are lavishly decorated in a variety of styles from the ornate rococo fancies of James Paine to sophisticated neo-classical rooms designed by Robert Adam. They include delicate hand-painted Chinese wallpapers, fine porcelain and masterpieces by Angelica Kauffman and Pieter Breughel.

Thomas Chippendale was born nearby and Nostell Priory is home to some of the finest examples of his craftsmanship in the world. Some of his work can be found in the Doll's House, where the tea set is hall marked silver and the glass is crystal.

The ground floor shows the working rooms of the house, providing a glimpse into the world of people who lived and worked in Nostell Priory.

Events are held at Nostell throughout the year. Check the website for more details.
