Housed in Taunton Castle the displays feature archaeology, ceramics, costume, silver, the Somerset Military Museum and a 16thC almshouse. Specialities include the prehistoric wooden track-ways from the Somerset Levels, objects from the Iron Age and the Low Ham Roman mosaic. Recent additions include the Shapwick coin hoard, the largest hoard of Roman silver coins found in Britain.
