Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum

Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum
Type : Museum
Location : Stokesley

The museum is housed in 2 rooms of the Postgate School in Great Ayton. The school was built in 1704, where James Cook received his early education. With the help of a lottery grant, the museum has been entirely reorganised. It now features a reconstruction of a schoolroom of the early 18thC, when teaching methods were very different from today. There are also interactive displays, suitable for both adults and children, about Cook's early life and his later achievements.
