Type : Museum
Location : Rochdale
The Rochdale Pioneers Museum is the home of the worldwide co-operative movement. In Toad Lane on December 21 1844 the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society opened their store selling pure food at fair prices and honest weights and measures, starting a revolution in retailing. See the recreation of the original shop with its rudimentary furniture and scales. Here the basic needs of daily life first went on sale over 150 years ago. Journey back in time with early advertising, packaging and retailing artefacts, postage stamps, commemorative china and dividend tokens.
