The museum, in the heart of Reeth, was first opened in 1974 and is based in the old Methodist School built in 1836. It is a fascinating repository of over 1,000 objects connected with the history of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale, covering geology, archaeology, the development and decline of leadmining, local trades, crafts and domestic life. There is a local and family history archive and a shop selling unusual, local publications and gifts. The adjoining 17th century cottage can be hired for holiday lets.
Reeth is an excellent centre for walking and sightseeing set amidst spectacular scenery, with lots to occupy the visitor.
