Cat Pottery

Cat Pottery
Type : Craft Centre
Location : Leyburn

Ceramic cats for interiors. Reconstituted stone and stoneware cats for outside. New range of metallic (aluminium and bronze resin) cats.

Moorside Design: Cat Pottery was established in 1982 by Shirley, Sarah and Barrie Nichols. Shirley and Sarah studied sculpture at The Slade and Edinburgh College of Art, Leeds College of Art for a combined total of eleven years. The fine sculptural characteristics of their cats bear witness to this.

From the start they were assisted in their work by Chloe and Orlando (black and white mother cat and grey offspring) and later by Zoe (another grey) who is still on the payroll aged 15, who greets visitors on arrival with tail held high.

In the garden, on the walls, on the roofs are the 'stone' cats in all their splendour, some ready to pounce, but most doing what cats do best - just lounging around.

Outside the Cat Pottery is the magnificent village green with market cross, stocks, swings and wooden benches. With the Fox and Hounds pub, an antique shop and a picture gallery and the nearby waterfall, West Burton's unique Cat Pottery has much to offer.
