Mother Shipton is England's most famous Prophetess. She lived some 500 years ago in the reign of Henry VIII. She was born in the legendary cave beside Knaresborough's mysterious Petrifying Well, a unique geological phenomenon that turns everyday items into stone. The Cave and Well lie at the heart of the Mother Shipton Estate, a mile long remanant of the Ancient Forest of Knaresborough. Riverside walks with spectacular views of old Knaresborough, scenic picnic areas, two adventure play areas for the children, museum, tea rooms, gift areas and childrens trail quiz with chocolate prize. Admission includes all day parking. Dog friendly. England's Oldest Visitor Attraction welcoming visitors since 1630.
