Jack and Jill Windmills

Jack and Jill Windmills
Type : Windmill
Location : Hassocks

The vast majority of the restoration of Jill Windmill has been carried out by Society Volunteers, who have met at the Mill on virtually every Saturday since January 1979. Jill Windmill has been restored to working order and she now produces stoneground wholemeal flour on an occasional basis. The vast majority of her flour [which is sold to visitors] is ground from organic wheat, grown in Sussex. Jill, along with her neighbour Jack (in private ownership), stand atop the scenic South Downs with spectacular views of the Sussex Weald. The windmills are seven miles north of the city of Brighton and Hove. When the wind is blowing (as it frequently does on the South Downs) Jill may be in operation and a guide available to explain the mysteries of milling. Whether you drive up to see us and enjoy a picnic or drop in as part of a long distance walk along the Downs you will have the opportunity to step back more than one hundred years into a working windmill. Jill Windmill is owned by Mid Sussex District Council. The Council has made and continues to make significant financial contributions towards our work on Jill Windmill.
