Arley Arboretum

Arley Arboretum
Type : Botanic Garden
Location : Nr. Bewdley

One of the oldest and most spectacular Arboretums in Britain is now open to the public thanks to the trustees of the R.D. Turner Charitable Trust.
Earl Mountnorris around 1800 originally planned the Arboretum, and it is thanks to his botanical knowledge, discoveries, and foresight, that the Arboretum is as it is today.
Although Arley became highly renowned for its exotic and rare tropical plants by the 1840's, it is the specimen trees that have stood the test of time, now being considered to be one of the county's finest tree collections. The mighty Crimean Pines stand like cathedral organ pipes, dwarfed only slightly by our trio of Corsican Pines.
As well as the Cedar, Tulip Tree, Sugar Maple, Ginkgo Biloba, Limes, Black Walnut, Paper-bark Maple, Beeches, (we even have a layered Beech), Monkey Puzzles, Pines, Wellingtonias, and Acers, of record sizes, you will find the seasonal Azaleas, Camellias, Magnolias, Daffs, Rhododendrons, and Bluebells in abundance.
Our four gardeners strive to extend its appeal, as can be seen in the stunning Italian Garden and fountain, within grade II listed walled gardens, and, when mother nature decides to change the décor, she does it big time at Arley Arboretum and Gardens.
