This abbey, founded in 1139 for a community of Augustinian canons, was reconstructed from the 1260s onwards as its prestige and riches grew. The remains of a beautiful octagonal chapterhouse are notably fine. Most impressivethough, is the 11thC gatehouse, recognised as one of the grandest in Europe.
