Killhope is a gold standard Green Tourism Destination, the inaugural winner of the Guardian's Family Friendly Museum award and winner of the North East England Sustainable Tourism award, silver award Customer Service 2006 and 2005 winner of the 'Most Welcoming Experience'.
Killhope is accredited as a 'Quality Assured Visitor Attraction' where visitors can discover the lives of Victorian lead mining families. Park Level Mine is a real adventure. Equipped with hard hat, lamp and wellies you are guided down the original tunnel. On the surface, dress up in Victorian-style clothes and work as a washer boy. See the North of England's largest working water wheel, meander through woodland walks. Pennine Jewels and Spar Box exhibitions, shops and cafe all enhance your day out in the country.
