Cotteswold House & Cottage

Cotteswold House & Cottage
Type : Bed & Breakfast
Location : Northleach

Northleach is a small town set in the heart of the Cotswolds, making it an ideal base for sightseeing, cycling and walking. At the centre of Northleach, fronting on to the Market Place, where you will find plentiful free parking, is Cotteswold House, once the home of a wealthy wool merchant.

Cotteswold House was built over 400 years ago and is a fascinating Grade II listed building. The Victorians redesigned the façade but inside the house shows its earlier origins. The dining room has a beamed ceiling, the timbers possibly re used from old ships, and 16thC wood panelling. The archway leading to the staircase is Tudor and the stone fireplace in our main bedroom dates from 1620.

Thomas Parker, a wealthy wool merchant whose ownership of the house is marked by the carved letter “P” in the original fireplace found in the Tudor Suite, originally owned the house. It is recorded that he lunched with Queen Elizabeth I, most likely in the dining hall.

Choose one of our three rooms, each with it’s own special character.

The Tudor Suite – a very spacious bedroom with King-sized canopied bed and dual control all night electric under-blanket, two-seater sofa, armchair and feature Tudor fireplace. A separate private lounge with TV, video, DVD, two sofas and a large private bathroom with canopied corner bath and shower over.

The Hayloft – with a King-size double bed, two-seater sofa, TV, tea and coffee.

Mullions – a large twin bedded room, each bed with double size duvet and all night electric under-blanket, two-seater sofa, TV, tea and coffee.

The Hayloft and Mullions have a private bathroom with bath incorporating a hand-held shower spray. A self-catering cottage in the grounds is available for longer stays.

Just a 2 minute walk away you will find 2 pubs, both serving good quality meals.

Northleach was given its market charter by King Henry III in 1227 and flourished as a major wool-exporting town for over 4 centuries. The magnificent church of St. Peter and St. Paul, renowned for it’s 3 hourly chimes, was restored in the 15thC and is known as the cathedral of the Cotswolds.

Today, Northleach has an unhurried and unspoilt atmosphere with local pubs and restaurants. So, after a stroll around town, a quiet drink and a pleasant meal, return to the comfort of Cotteswold House.
