Mead Barn Cottages are set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our holiday homes are full of character. We are nestled in a small hollow in the hamlet of Mead, part of Welcombe and just over half a mile from the sea, on the border of Devon and Cornwall. We are about half way between Bude and Clovelly. The barns have entrances at different levels ensuring a variety of gardens, countryside and even the occasional sea view. Mead Barns are very close to the coastal path with its access to high cliffs and secluded coves. The closest of these is Welcombe Mouth with its beautiful valley, stream and waterfall leading to the sea and beach which has dramatic rock formations, rock pools and sand so that you can explore, surf or build sandcastles. There are many other coastal and country walks, both long and short through lanes, fields and wooded valleys and we provide walk itineraries based in Mead. The area is a paradise for walkers, dog owners and those wanting to relax. Within a few minutes driving there is a large choice of Sandy Beaches: at Sandy Mouth, Bude and Westward Ho! Whatever the weather there is plenty to do!
Mead is just 75 to 90 minutes from Jct 27 of the M5 and 5 minutes off the A39, which means that, while enjoying peace and tranquillity, the accommodation is ideally placed for exploring the whole of the North Devon and Cornwall coast and for excursions inland to the moors and picturesque villages and historically interesting towns. There is so much to do that many visitors find a week not nearly long enough.
We have 5 barn cottages offering accommodation varying in size from 2 to 4 bedrooms and we offer discounts out of high season for groups of less than 4. All have well equipped kitchens with cooker, microwave oven, fridge freezers and pine dining furniture. The larger units have dishwashers and washing machines. The lounges are well furnished with colour TV’s, VCR’s and Hi-Fi’s. The bedrooms are furnished with double beds (some four-posters) or are twin bedded. The barn cottages are well heated throughout and all power and heating is included. Bathrooms all have baths and showers and all bedding, kitchen linen and personal towels are included.
The peak season change over day is Friday; outside peak season we offer flexible arrival and departure days and breaks.
The barns are surrounded by mature gardens and we have a tennis court and games room offering table tennis, pool and snooker. There is also a laundry room with washing machine and tumble drier, a large private car park and outside children’s play area. We are open all year and offer week and longer stays.
