The Drunken Duck Inn

The Drunken Duck Inn
Type : Inn
Location : Ambleside

The Duck is set in 60 acres, in the middle of nothing but magnificent scenery. One way leads to Great Langdale, another Coniston, a third through Ambleside to Rydal Water and Grasmere; the fourth by Hawkshead and Beatrix Potter''s Sawrey.

In the restaurant, excellent cuisine features fresh, local produce. The emphasis is on good food in a relaxed and informal environment. Head chef Nick Foster has gained an enviable reputation for his well-presented and imaginative food.

Each room at The Duck has been individually furnished and decorated with antiques, pictures and crisp white bed linen. Several rooms have been added to the accommodation to cater for the demand that has arisen.

The Drunken Duck has also become home to Barngates Brewery for nearly 5 years. ''Cracker Ale'', ''Chester''s Strong and Ugly'', Westmorland Beer Festival Champion Ale 1999 ''Tag Lag'' and ''Catnap'' are all brewed and sold on the premises.

The legend of the Drunken Duck, we weren''t always called the Drunken Duck. For years the sign read ''Barngates Inn''. What started life in Victorian times as a nickname is now engraved on ordnance survey maps.
